The product development process can be significantly shortened by constructing prototypes, as the lengthy mould construction period is no longer required. Potential mistakes in the product can be recognised and corrected in the early stages of development. Products are ‘intelligible’ long before the start of production. Cost intensive, time intensive mould alterations are avoided as far as possible. There are different types of technologies available for constructing prototypes, starting with 3D printing, which produce something very close to the finished product.
